to speak of a few before they are in my hands:
igby goes down: love it, but it reminds me a little/lot too much of royal tenenbaums in the wealthy-dysfunctional-family sense. i still like it a lot, but i might not, say, buy the IGD poster for that reason. ha.
american beauty: never seen this one either. i just want to see the floating bag scene that, like, a million people have told me reminds them of me. no kidding, a million. maybe more.
bottle rocket: haven’t seen it, but everything else wes anderson touches has knocked me on my ass, so i’m sure this flick won’t be any exception. plus luke & owen are in it. those freaks.
let’s nevermind that observation though, because mr. anderson is about to knock me down again.
i am depriving my body of food in anticipation of his latest, “the life aquatic with steve zissou.”
hip hop hooray for PSH in “25th hour” and “punch drunk love.” i haven’t seen either of those yet, as i am still fleshing out the greater part of his library in the films that he has starred or appeared extensively in.
let it be noted, too, that mister hoffman is just one of about 1000 fabulous reasons to check out david mamet’s WONDERFUL “state and main,” featuring the deftly witty rebecca pidgeon.
my favourite flick of his is “love liza,” which his brother wrote the screenplay for. he also stars in the very canadian “owning mahowny,” in which he is a high-powered banker with a gambling problem. co-starring minnie driver with blond hair.
i was first turned on to him in “the talented mr. ripley,” which i still love. three cheers for miss paltrow-martin.
what would you say is PSH’s on-screen time in “25th hour” and “punch drunk love”? i’ve had the impression of something not more than 20 or 30 minutes. thanks for the “hard eight” heads-up, too.
the kittens say hello,
