Ownership of a memory

i think what you are talking about is two different topics: idolization and reflection. i think that it is completely different to want to meet a famous rock band and tell everyone that you met them than it is to meet a moment or a friend and reflect on that relationship in dialogue. Kierkegaard said that it is only the poets that have the true memories because they can never be the heroes. they are the arrows pointing to the heroes, be they moments, blackbirds or people. anyway, it is always dangerous to generalize a characteristic of humanity with an analogy on idolization. there are many people [a number of christian existentialists] that see the human condition as nothing to admire in others that apparently have “succeeded” in the eyes of others. it is an interesting thought though. i think you may truly be a melancholic at heart.
