Oh make no mistake, i would rather see churches carrying social services upon their shoulders as they once did up until the early 1900’s. Unfortunately, the church (as a whole) really doesn’t do this anymore. In fact, I believe they’ve gone and abdicated their responsibility. I since the church isn’t doing their job, I’m glad another is picking up the slack.
I mean, God has in the past used others outside of the faith to accomplish his purposes i.e. Baalam…
Just a side note, I once asked one of the social workers i serve with, if he were able to estimate how many of the folk he assists actually abuse the system. I was pretty solid on an 80/20 differential – 80% being those who actually need it and are not abusing it.
I guess I’m just less critical of those without money abusing the system, and more critical of companies like Wal-Mart who are utilizing corporate welfare to add to their already high surpluses.
